Political Turn the Tables, October 2000 – 2011

This unique and innovative event allows guests to witness contemporary political leaders “turning the tables” on their media tormentors.

Inspired by the plight of hapless politicians harassed and castigated by journalists, Political Turn the Tables offers a unique opportunity for politicians to interrogate their tormentors. For eleven years a succession of high profile Chairmen (William Waldegrave, Michael Portillo, Andrew Neil and now James Landale) have empowered and encouraged politicians to strike back at their tormentors.

William Hague, Peter Mandelson and Vince Cable have taken on John Humphrys, Jeremy Paxman and Nick Robinson; they have been supported and encouraged by Matthew Parris, Boris Johnson and Michael Gove. A “cash for questions” session at the end of the lunch is enlivened by the fact that many of the guests have been involved in challenging interviews themselves; could this be their chance for revenge?

Turn the Tables in London has raised over £550,000 for Cancer Research UK since 2000.
The 2011 Turn the Tables was held at BAFTA on Monday 24th October. Chaired by James Landale with Clive Anderson as adjudicator, guests saw Harriet Harman interview Peter Oborne of the Daily Telegraph and Eric Pickles take on Mary Riddell, also of the Daily Telegraph.
